September signals the closing of the summer, with autumn just around the corner. However, the month is stacked full of fun activities and events, for you to make the most of the relatively good weather left in London. To give you a helping hand, our local insiders have been searching far and wide to find the coolest activities and must-attend events if you’re in London this September. Outdoor Theatre: Evita
Usually, when “London” and “Theatre” get mentioned in the same sentence, the west end comes to mind. Although quite the experience, if you’re looking for something more unique, London is home to many parks which have outdoor theatres where you can catch a performance. Regents Park Outdoor Theatre is one of the most iconic, with a capacity of around 1200 people it has been operating since 1932. This summer they’ve had a jam-packed schedule, but the season is winding down to a close. Before it does, catch a showing of Evita, an Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice composition, and one of the headline musicals from this year.

From the 30th August till the 1st September, the iconic Tobacco Dock is transformed into a meat sanctuary that has carnivores from all across the globe salivating. Yes, you got it, it’s Meatopia 2019, an annual event celebrating carnivorous cuisine, bringing the very best culinary brands, chefs and creators under one roof. From steaks, sausages to all kinds of other tantalising meat treats. Most importantly, everything about this event, from the meat served to the wood used for the barbies is ethically sourced. So if you’re in town, grab yourself some grub, fill up your cup with craft beer and chow down to a backdrop of live music. It’s gonna be an absolute banger of an event.

Ahh, the Thames. Stretching through the heart of the city, this river has played a significant role in the history of London and still is equally as important today. The Thames is vital for London, but beyond this, beneath the waters and along the coasts lie its secrets and all that makes it special. So every year the Totally Thames Festival hosts a range of events that focus on showcasing and celebrating this important natural treasure. From music, art, sculptures, stories to nature, history and much much more. Bermondsey Street Festival
Bermondsey is a South London suburb which is the perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon. The area seems to have a close-knit community, with the streets packed full of independent businesses. Although in the heart of London, this area has a real village vibe and will be transformed for the annual Bermondsey Street Festival. Think live music, performances, stalls showcasing the very best of Bermondsey, from handcrafted goods, fantastic food and drink.

London Wing Festival
If wings are your thing, then the annual Wingfest 2019 will be an event that will certainly satisfy your stomach. This wing extravaganza will be a sea of people, chowing down on the creations of the best wing makers around, whilst sipping burbourn and craft beer, to a backdrop of live music. At Wingfest you can expect classic combos like buffalo with blue cheese, to the weird and wonderful like Salted Caramel. There is even a competition where judges and wing lovers select the best wings in two categories, Buffalo and Wild Wings. Last years winners were Wingman and Earls, but who will it be this year? BBC Proms in the Park
As featured in our August guide to What’s Happening in London, for the past 8 weeks, the people of London have been serenaded by the orchestral sounds of the annual BBC Proms. What better way to celebrate this iconic musical bonanza than a good old party. This curtain closing event of the BBC Proms will take place in Hyde Park, with legends of the showbiz world gracing the stages to sing their heart out for the masses to enjoy. Headlining this year’s Proms in the Park will be Barry Manilow, Lighthouse Family, Chrissie Hynde and Jack Savoretti. So get your dancing shoes on, and boogie under the stars. It’s quite a spectacle.

BBC Radio 2 Live
If the final night of the proms isn’t enough for all you party animals, then the Beeb will be hosting another music bonanza at Radio 2 Live. Taking place in Hyde Park, this will bring some of the biggest names in pop on one stage for a bloody good party. Headlining acts this year include The Pet Shop Boys, Westlife, Status Quo, Clean Bandit, Emilie Sande and many many more. If you love to party to pop, then be sure to pop down.

Outdoor Cinema: Bohemian Rhapsody
Ever wanted to sit on the grounds of a medieval palace and watch a movie? Well, now you can. Fulham Palace has partnered with The Luna Cinema to bring you an outdoor cinema experience like no other. They will be showing the Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic of one of the world’s most revered musical superstars, the late Freddie Mercury. Featuring Oscar Award Winner, Rami Malek, this film has had rave reviews, and you can watch it under the starry sky. So grab your popcorn, this is a cinematic experience you don’t want to miss.

London Design Festival
London is considered a global powerhouse when it comes to design, and every year the leading names and pioneers in the field descend to the big smoke for the annual London Design. If you’re a lover of art, sculpture, design and architecture, then over 8 days in September you’ll be able to experience the works, weird and wonderful, of some of the leading names in the game. For the 11th year, this event is held in conjunction with the V & A Museum, but you’ll be able to see art installations dotted around at multiple outdoor and indoor locations across the city. If you have a design on your mind, then LDF is one that will definitely set you’re imagination alight.

If you’re a nighttime owl and are flying to London towards the end of September, then the Emerge festival is an event you’ll love. Over 2 days, this festival will give you the opportunity to boogie in some of the most iconic venues, to beats scratched by the best emerging musical talent in London. From a kaleidoscope bonanza at the Natural History Museum to a mock Victorian amputation, all to a backdrop to the sounds of deep house and electro. With one ticket, you can get access to all 10 venues dotted around the many boroughs of the big smoke. If a unique, alternative party experience is what you seek, then look no further.
