What’s Happening in London: August
Summer is in full swing in London, with so many activities and events for you to enjoy. To be honest, there’s so much going on that you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice. So to help you cut through the noise in the big smoke, here are our must-attend events in London this August.
Vegan Vibes GMT
London is full of magnificent markets, and Greenwich is up there with the very best. From fabulous food, live events and a whole host of other awesome things going on. On the 2nd of August, this market will be transformed for a Pre-Carnival party like no other, the Vegan Vibes GMT. This event will bring together some of the city’s best plant-based foodies, live music and other awesome activities which will get in the mood for the upcoming annual Notting Hill Carnival. Great vegan food, music and good vibes all-round.

Film4 Summer Screen
The last thing you want to do when the weather is glorious is to be couped up inside a cinema or sat indoors scrolling through Netflix. However, if you still fancy watching a film, fear not the Film 4 Summer screen will give you the best of both worlds. Every summer the fountain court at Somerset House is transformed into an outdoor cinema packed full of people having a good time. The schedule stretches throughout august, so you don’t missout. In addition to the cinema, they have DJ’s scratching the decks and vendors serving some succulent grub. So be sure to grab a drink, take a seat and enjoy this unique cinematic experience under the starry sky. Be warned though, you need and to book advance and this is super popular, so tickets go fast.

If you’re a history buff but tired of just seeing the standard sites, like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London, then the Legendary Joust at Eltham Palace is an event you can’t miss. Here you can travel back to medieval times and experience the fascinating traditions of that era. Learn how they used to cook, joke about with the jovial jesters and catch the knights charging towards one another in the famous joust. It’s a truly unique experience filled with fun, so if this kind of thing floats your boat then you simply have to pop down. Advance booking is advised.

London is a shopaholic’s idea of paradise, and Regents Street is probably the most famous street where people descend to get a dose of retail therapy. If you’re the type of person who hates shopping but always get dragged along against your will, usually ending up twiddling your thumbs whilst your friends browse around, then the Summer Streets festival on Regents street is perfect. The bustling street is pedestrianised for the day, so you can chill outside while your partner or friends shop around. They have music, food, drinks and a host of activities, so you can also have some fun.

Notting Hill Carnival
What makes London so special is the melting pot of cultures which come together and form the backbone of this vibrant city. If you want to see the beauty of this in full swing, there’s no better place to be than the Notting Hill Carnival. Every year since 1966, the streets of W1 are transformed into a magnificent mashup of sounds, smells and sights, from the four corners of the globe. So grab yourself a drink, some curried goat with rice and peas and wine you’re your way through West London to the sounds of reggaeton.

The leafy green of Clapham Common provides some peace and tranquillity from the mundanity of the busy city life. However, on the August Bank holiday, this green space is transported into an oasis of dance music with the annual SW4 festival. Every year festival-goers descend here to get down to the beats of the very best in electro, EDM, dance, house and grime music. This year’s line up includes Martin Garrix, Chase & Status, Wiley and so much more. So if you’re in the mood to get mashup and unleash your inner raver, get yourself down to SW4.

London Craft Beer Festival
If you’re a beer lover and in London, this August, then boy are you in for a treat. Why you may ask? Well, it’s the annual London Craft Beer Festival. An annual event that takes place over three days, bringing the best independent breweries to showcase their own unique beer blends, for you to sample. If that isn’t enough, then there is also street food to satisfy your salivary glands. So get ready to enjoy some cracking craft beer, fantastic food to a banging backdrop of live music.

Yoga in Victoria Park
Strolling through London parks is pretty awesome, but doing yoga in the park is something else. Good news is you can now do the latter at the East London Victoria Park, right under one of the iconic pagoda’s. Shanti Yoga Safari will be hosting this event, one of many they have done this year. So get ready for a super relaxing yoga session led by the founder Agnes Jung.

Nothing quite signals the arrival of the British summer quite like the BBC Proms. This iconic series of live music and arts events that take place over 8 weeks, and have done since 1895. The focal point of this festival is the orchestral and classical music, with most of the events being held at the Royal Albert Hall. However their a series of events held at other venues to celebrate this season of sound and fun.

elrow Town London
This August the old English Trent Park House and country park will be transformed into a sea of colours as the eLROW Town festival comes back to London. This banging immersive party experience is an export of Barcelona, bought to the big smoke for house music fanatics of the big smoke to enjoy. You can enjoy stilt walkers, confetti, inflatables to a backdrop of electric beats cut by some of the biggest names in the business. This years line-up includes Alan Fitzpatrick, Jamie Jones and a whole host of acts, so you can dance the night away.

London Dessert Festival
If you have a sweet tooth, then this August you’re in for a bloody top-notch treat. Yes, you got it, it’s the annual London Dessert Festival. For two days only the famous Old Truman Brewery will be transformed into Willie Wonky’s layer, with London’s best dessert makers and eaters descending here for a sweet time. From tiramisu, creme brulee and cheesecake to milkshakes, cakes and much much more. It’s dessert heaven, so get ready to take your taste buds on a tasty adventure.

London Jollof Rice Day Festival
Diversity is definitely one of the key ingredients which make London so special. People from all over the world moved here and now call the big smoke home, bringing with them their own culture, from music and food. The African community is one of these, and this August will be hosting an event to celebrate one of their best-known foods, the iconic Jollof Rice. Every country has it’s own variation and lays claim to being the very best. You can be the judge of that and sample some of the ridiculously tasty rice and learn more about the wonderful African cuisines and traditions.
