What’s Happening in Budapest: July
Summer is in full swing and the streets of Budapest are buzzing with life, with thousands making the trip to get a taste of that Magyar life. July is a hot month with so many events to check it if you’re planning a trip here then, so our locals have narrowed it down to the very best for you to explore.
Balaton Sound can be found on the buck list of festival goers all across the world. Held on the beautiful Lake Balaton, this music festival is every party animals perfect dream. The real beauty of Balaton Sound is that you can swim in the lake, whilst cutting shapes to the sounds of your favourite tunes. Unlike the more well Sziget, Balaton Sound is a smaller festival, less crowded with huge grounds meaning that you can walk from one side to the other without getting stuck in the crowds.
Budapest Pride March
The month of July signals the beginning of the Budapest Pride Festival, which consists of a series of live events raising awareness for the LGBTQ community and showing their support for equality. This concludes with the iconic Budapest Pride March which starts at 4pm at the Kossuth tér. So join the sea of colour and show some support for love and equality.
Swing On The Bridge
There are so many bridges in Budapest, but one the most beautiful of them all is the Liberty Bridge. Usually, you have to be careful as hoards of cars pass along it every day. However, in 2016, a new grassroots campaign called The Szabihíd Project was launched, where the bridge would be fully pedestrianised for the month of July. After it’s huge success, the Liberty Bridge is taken over by people on ten toes and hosts some amazing events and activities to celebrate this. The Swing On The Bridge event is one you simply cannot miss. Think some bourbon, boogieing to the beat of some tasty tunes from The Ratty Jazz Band to a backdrop of Budapest majestic view. Amazing
Be Massive: Open Air Electric Party
Be Massive Records are Budapest’s bonafide kingpins of all thing electric, hosting regular events which showcase some of the best artists around. The open-air electric party is one of the daytime events they’ll be running this year. So you grab a drink or two, or a Palinka if you’re feeling brave, and get on the dance floor and shake what your mamma gave you.
The sweltering Budapest summer seems to have been built for daytime parties and CityMatine is one the locals just can’t get enough of. Held on the banks of the Danube, CityMatine is straight fire, with drinks flowing, people mingling and DJ’s dropping some dirty bass on decks. If you’re in Budapest and looking for a helluva good time, then give CityMatine a holla, you will not regret it.
July 29th – August 4th
If you’re a fan of all things trance and psychedelic, then the Ozora festival is 100% the one for you. This epic event is an explosion of all things artistic and a favourite stomping ground for free-spirited people from all five continents. The people all seem to be super friendly and the mesmerizing music will have you cutting shapes surrounded by late into the night.
Hungarian National Gallery – Wine Wednesdays
July 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st
The Hungarian National Gallery is home to some sublime artwork from around the World. Located inside Buda Castle, the gallery holds regular exhibitions and every Wednesday in July will be hosting Wine Wednesdays. So you can see some amazing art whilst sipping on some fine wine, whilst being serenaded by the sound of live music. If that wasn’t magical enough, then check out the stunning view of Budapest from their terrace. It’s insane.
