What’s Happening In Barcelona: July
Summers in Barcelona are always lively and July is looking like an absolute cracking month filled with fun. The line-up of things to do in Barcelona is pretty extensive, but here are our top picks as recommended by our local insiders.
One of Barcelona´s largest festivals, offering 40 concerts in 3 days. A jam-packed schedule includes artists like Parov Stellar, Bastille, Black Eyed Peas. Cruella prides itself on being more than music, it is a festival of arts, gastronomy, fashion, technology and wellbeing and social responsibility. Using the concerts as a platform to reach the younger audience Cruilla is truly pioneering socially responsible festivals. What a good reason to enjoy some tunes, am I right?
Since the very first year (2014), this festival became iconic in the Europen rock culture, lending itself a spot as top Rock Festivals. Locates in the Park de Can Zam, an 11 hectare garden, in the outskirts of Barcelona. Ensuring all-day rock to all lovers of the roll, the two mainstages set up next to each other offer a way for fans access to concerts all throughout the day, without the classic festival dilemma of “which stage do we go to next?” This year’s headliners are King Diamond, ZZ top, Saxon and Def Leppard.
THE Electronic Dance Festival. One of the coolest experiences Barcelona has to offer. Set up right on the Platja del Forum the headliners this year are Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, DJ Snake. Check out the 2018 highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff0Hiz1f93g
Sonar is one of the most well-respected music festivals, it has been held in the city since 1994. Sonar is an intense musical experience, with concerts around the clock and after dark the venues open their doors to host the afterparty, making for a three day long, “no rest for the music”, festival. It is truly the musical event that has helped make Barcelona the European musical capital. The artists attending are pioneering the electronic and experimental music world, with artists in the history like Björk, The Chemical Brothers, Sweat Shop Boys and, Nicholas Jaar.
The most remarkable thing about Sónar is the fact that the party doesn’t only take place during the festival: it continues in every club, music venue or late-night bar in Barcelona. The city becomes part of a continuation of the Sónar experience. A week-long, unofficial program of events often featuring the same acts that play at the festival in smaller venues across the city. Think of Off-Sonar as the pre, and after party of Sonar.
Here are our two favourites Off Sonar Events:
Circoloco, an Ibiza Icon, that expanded into Off-Sonar to bring more people under their party umbrella. Taking place in the main square of the Poble Espanyol up on the Montjuic mountain this incredible party is always one for the books. Headliners include Virgil Abloh, The Martinez Brothers, Volvox and Seth Troxler.
For an out of this world, fantasy colour world. A trip through space and time, Woomoon is a party journey. These musical experiences will be surrounded by enchanting local art markets, vegetarian food and cocktails, make-up, hair and costume zones, and a dazzling selection of performers, mimes, clowns, living statues and artists. Think modern day hippie meets tantric art and transcendent music.
UNITE with Tomorrowland
Bringing a party to multiple locations, all at the same time, thanks to live-stream video technology. Tomorrowland, the famous Belgian based EDM festival has opened its doors for people globally. It is An event held in a setting inspired by Tomorrowland (a customized UNITE stage, decoration and special effects) combined with a massive well-curated line-up of local & international artists. It’s more than just a live stream, it’s a unique show that allows you to escape reality.
