Local Stories: Jordan’s Journey to Budapest

“Wanderlust: a strong desire or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world”

I would say this quote sums me up pretty well. My desire to travel led me halfway across the world from the place I call home at 18 and since then I have moved cities twice from Sydney, Australia to London and now Budapest. I am now a 20-year-old Australian girl who loves an adventure.

I started my dream business in Budapest a year ago when I moved, a content creation business which stemmed from my freelance writing which I had been doing for a few years previously on my blog and as a side hustle to my full-time job in London. I travelled to Budapest with my Hungarian boyfriend and fell in love with this city so when we got the chance to move we did! Budapest is such a lively city with so many young innovators and aspiring business owners which means I have been able to surround myself with people who motivate me in my business goals too. It’s a digital nomad’s dream.

This has also fuelled my drive for trying new things and I think it’s pretty safe to say I’ve been to almost every meetup and workshop this city has to offer, from rooftop yoga, Spanish dancing, public speaking, wine tasting, networking events and DJ workshops. I’ve yet to try a Hungarian cooking class so that’s definitely on my list for this year!

During the week you’ll probably find me working in a cafe in Buda rather than at home, there’s something about the smell of coffee and the bustle that helps my creativity flow. My favourite spots to hang out are on the Buda side except for one exception My Little Melbourne in Pest purely because it reminds me of home. Writing and exploring are what I love so you will never find me without my notebook or camera walking around the city. If the weather permits one of my favourite things to do is hike up Gellert Hill so I have the best view of the city while doing yoga, it’s also the best spot for a picnic with friends in the summer.

Supporting people in their ideas and business is something I love to do and that’s why I love my job! I’m passionate about supporting local designers, artists and business owners in any country I visit and I am always on the lookout for more, checking new boutique stores and cafes around the city to promote (just one of the reasons I love Like Locals because they have created a platform for these people to be recognised). There are so many amazing creatives just waiting to be discovered.

My partner and I live on the Buda side with our little chihuahua Mazsi (which means sultana in Hungarian) I love living on the Buda side, it’s quiet with lots of greenery which means there are a lot of parks around to take the puppy so he can make some new friends.
