How To Make A Cocktail – Near and Far London

The cocktail, a magical mixed drink universally loved and consumed by people looking to let loose and have a good time. We popped down to Near and Far, a Palm Springs inspired cocktail bar in London, to see how they make their signature margarita, the Cocorita.

Near and Far is a new brand of cocktail bar bringing the Palm Springs party experience for the people of London. Operating three venues across London, they’ve gained a reputation for serving sublime cocktails. So it’ll come as no surprise that since opening their doors in Peckham in 2017, Near and Far has become a favourite spot amongst the London’s cocktail loving contingent. After the success of the first site in Peckham, the Californian cocktail experience has spread across the Thames, with two new locations opening in Angel and Camden. So we popped down to the new Near and Far HQ in Camden, to see what all the fuss is about and learn how they make their signature cocktail, the Cocorita.

The new Near and Far HQ is located in the heart of Camden, across from the iconic Camden Stables market and near the legendary music venue, Roundhouse. The turquoise exterior and neon sign make it stand out from the crowd, step inside, and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported from Camden to California. Set over four floors, the venue has two bars a lounge and a rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a cocktail while watching the world go by. The team behind Near and Far have done a cracking job creating that California vibe in a classy way. Look around, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by palm trees, pastel hues, cacti and flamingos.

The lively decor, combined with the neon lights and good music create a great ambience, making it a must go place to grab yourself a cocktail. The staff are super friendly as were the diverse crowd we found inside, from the hip and happening people enjoying some food from resident kitchen Elote. To a group of old builders who’d popped in to have a few drinks to celebrate the start of the weekend. However when the sun goes down and the night owls come out, Near and Far is where they flock for a good time. With DJ’s scratching some chilled disco tunes, you can dance late into the night with a delicious drink in hand. Aside from living music they have a jam-packed calendar hosting a range of other events from art nights to pet-friendly brunches.

The Cocorita

The decor and ambience are great, but what makes Near and Far so special is the cocktails. The menu is extensive with so many magical concoctions to choose from, you’ll be well and truly spoilt for choice. If you’re not sure what you want just tell one of the mad mixologists your likes and he’ll fix you up some tipple to tantalise your taste buds. We were served by Ben, who not only recommended but showed us how to make the signature margarita, the Coco-Rita. Made from tequila, lime juice, coconut puree and homemade chilli salt coated rim, the Coco-Rita was pretty simple but still packed quite the punch. The homemade chilli salt rim was the highlight and took the drink into a different dimension. Bloody delicious.
